Diurnal patterns for winter data

BlackAir – Black Carbon, Air pollution and Health in Modena.
Analysis of the temporal and spatial variability of Black and Brown Carbon partitions of aerosols in the urban area of Modena, along with the estimate of their sanitary effects on the population and of their direct and indirect costs.

Description of the eBC data:

  • Indirect estimate of Black Carbon is based on the attenuation of a light beam with 5 different wavelengths.
  • Carbonaceous particles are produced during combustion, mainly from liquid and solid fuels.
  • The major sources of carbonaceous particles in the urban area of Modena are considered vehicular traffic and biomass burning (e.g. woodstoves).
  • Black Carbon is toxic for human health and it’s the fraction of atmospheric particles with the largest climatic effect.

Methods:

  • Two MicroAeth MA200: portable compact Aethalometer at 5 wavelengths (UV – B – G – R – IR) to collect data at one urban background and one urban traffic site.
  • GRAL / Parallel Micro Swift Spray: model for microscale simulation of the dispersion of BC emissions by vehicular traffic
